About the guy himself

My name is Ali Junior and welcome to Where's the Guy

About Me

This website is dedicated to those interested to learn about  travelling and what comes with it, whether that being the my top recommended hiking spots with breath taking views in Sri Lanka or travelling as a black guy.

I’ve travelled through Vietnam in a motorbike, swam with the Manta rays in Indonesia, got mistaken for Brazilian and robbed at gunpoint in Rio De Janireo then went to a street party an hour later! got mistaken for Sri Lankan and had some of the best food in my life. In short term I’ve created and I’m continuing to create moments to last a lifetime

I studied Civil Engineering  at a London University and worked with 3 large firms travelling around the UK since graduating in 2016. The reason why its 3 is because no matter how much I love Civil Engineering, I love travelling more, so I usually quit and travel for a certain period of time but needless to say I also use all my annual leave on trips abroad! Although since Covid I’ve been trying (within reason) to explore the hidden gems of the UK.

I wish that road trips could pay my bills.

I must’ve heard the quote a few years ago and till now I think if only. Although travelling required some sort of money to give you a head start, I can promise you this. It’s worth it.

Where’s The Guy (WTG) is not about a guy that’s lost but the opposite, its about someone looking for ideas, advice, a bit of a push (..or a kick) on where to go to next, where to be right now, travelling sustainable, travelling as a BAME.

My 3 Pillars

1. Travelling

Travelling to me means freedom. There’s something exhilarating about being outside your comfort zone, it brings out a different side of me and forces me to adapt to the environment I’m in, as this enhances my current skills and helps to gain new ones such as practicing Spanish in Mexico or Scuba Diving in Greece. Travelling to me means living like a local, such as eat the local cuisines, embracing the culture and meeting new people. Travelling to me makes great memories.

About Me

2. Civil Engineering & Architecture

Although I do have a degree in Civil Engineering, you don’t need on to appreciate structures. I’m fascinated by the historic & current architectural structures built in all countries ranging from the Golden Bridge in Vietnam, the airport in Singapore, Chichen Itza in Mexico and the Wat Rong Khun – White Temple in Thailand. Structures create cities and connect people, to me they are the foundations to building a country.

3. Fitness

First let me say the first thing I do in a country is to discover all its flavours!  But I do keep an eye on my physique and the best way to do it is by the enjoying the countries nature and sport. This includes getting kicked in the face by Muay Thai in Phuket, struggling to Yoga in Bali, trying out the traditional national dance of Catalunya, hiking Christ the Redeemer in Rio De Janeiro, Kayaking the sea caves in Krabi, and scuba diving the Mediterranean Sea in Greece.
